Aquaculture Industry
As the waters of Cimei Township are free from pollution, local aquaculture has gained a reputation for quality and output, particularly with abalones. Two types are abalone are now farmed, one being the Pearl Abalone fed on Gracilaria and the other the Emerald Abalone fed on a special mixture. Both types are very tender and juicy. Every year an abalone food festival is held in July, attracting many tourists.
Fishery
Ocean currents intersect the waters around Cimei Township resulting in the creation of very well-stocked fisheries. Fishing has therefore always been a mainstay of Cimei's local economy but at the moment, population drain and higher transportation costs means fishermen incomes have stagnated. This means most fishing today is now only done at a subsistence level.
Agriculture
There are 385.54 hectares of agricultural land in Cimei Township and accounts for 61.19% of all local land use. The climate however means only a limited range of crops can be grown such as peanuts, yams, corn and winter vegetables. Some unique local crops such as the Glossogyne are also cultivated as well. Severe population drain however has led to a lot of land being left fallow.
Animal husbandry
Due to Cimei Township's isolated location and shortage of resources, the local animal husbandry industry is more developed than Penghu proper. Kept animals include goats, chicken, cattle, ducks, and geese. As all of the cattle and goats on the island are allowed to roam free and fed on unpolluted wild grasses, their meat is particularly delicious. This has led to a significant growth in the market for mutton.
