Columnar and tabular formations: When lava emerges from the ground, as the flow of molten rock cools it forms columnar joints. The columns also shrink horizontally when they cool to form tabular formations.



Bent Columnar Formation: At the base of the lava flow, the molten rock cools to form bent columnar formations.



Radiating Columnar Joint: When the molten lava flow reaches its furthest point, the effect of the terrain and cooling causes radiating columnar joints to form.
